The Parrot AR Drone

about and robots

I’ve been flying a drone recently called the Parrot AR Drone. You can buy it in a shop for a couple of hundred quid and it’s basically a big toy that you fly with your phone. But it’s also possible to control the Parrot with Javascript, which means all sorts of interfaces can be written for them, and Professor Chad Jenkins at Brown University has done just that.

I can, and quite often do go careening around the halls of Brown University, flying through hoops, knocking beach balls off podiums and generally chasing John and Alice around the laboratory.

It’s amazing to fly around a distant space when you can’t move your own body. I really can’t describe it. But take this and multiplied by a couple of thousand and you get pretty close:

Watch this space for more QuadCopter crashing!
